Couples therapy for partners who want to feel like a team again
Online couples therapy for Seattle and all of Washington State. Whether you're married, dating, polyamorous, or figuring it out, we start with what's actually happening between you.
Maybe this sounds familiar
It's the same argument every time, just about a different thing.
You're great at logistics and have quietly become roommates.
One of you pushes to talk, and the other shuts down.
Something broke the trust between you, and you're not sure how to rebuild it.
A big change (a baby, a move, a layoff, caring for a parent) has pulled you apart.
You're doing fine, and you want to keep it that way before you marry or move in together.
What we can work on
Recurring arguments and communication that keeps breaking down
Feeling distant, disconnected, or unheard
Rebuilding trust after a breach, including infidelity
Major life transitions
Preparing for marriage or a long-term commitment
Differences in culture, family expectations, or how you each learned to love
How I work with couples
I'm not a referee, and I won't decide who's right. We look at the pattern between you: what happens, what each of you feels underneath, and how you both got here. A lot of it goes back to how you each learned to communicate in the families that raised you.
I draw on the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, but you don't need to know what either one means. In practice, we slow the hard conversations down, understand what's driving them, and practice new ways of reaching each other that you can use at home. I'm gentle but direct, and I'll be honest with both of you.
After a breach of trust
Infidelity and other breaches can make it hard to know whether to stay, how to talk about it, or where to even begin. Therapy is a place to slow down, be heard on both sides, and decide together what comes next, without rushing toward an answer.
Couples between cultures
Intercultural and interracial couples, and couples where one or both partners grew up between cultures, often carry different rules about family, money, conflict, and how love is shown. I work with many Korean American and intercultural couples. More on therapy for Korean American and bicultural lives.
Every kind of relationship is welcome
LGBTQ+ couples, polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous relationships, and kink-friendly and sex-positive partners are all welcome. No relationship structure is treated as the default, and you won't be asked to justify your relationship or educate me about it.
What couples sessions look like online
Sessions are 50 minutes over secure video through SimplePractice. Both partners need to be located in Washington State during sessions. You can join together from one private space, or from two separate places if that works better for you.
Fees and insurance
Couples sessions are $180, and the first session (intake) is $200. I'm in-network with Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, First Choice, Regence, Premera, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare (commercial and Medicaid), and Medicaid Wellpoint. Please check your own benefits, because it's your responsibility to know how your coverage works. Full details are on my Fees and insurance page.
Questions
-
If you are willing to try, it's right for you.
-
It helps if you're both invested, but I've often found that showing up is enough to start a conversation, which, given the right container, can lead to greater understanding.
-
No. My job is to understand both of you and the pattern you're caught in, not to decide who's right. I'll be honest with each of you, kindly.
-
Yes. Dating, engaged, married, separated, polyamorous, or figuring it out: you're welcome as you are.
