Hi, I’m Adine.
I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in Normandy Park, WA, working with individuals, couples, and families (ages 11 and up) across Washington State via telehealth. I bring a gentle but direct approach to our work together — I'll be honest with you, I'll challenge you when it's helpful, and I'll never make you feel judged for where you're starting from.
I grew up navigating two cultures at once, and that experience shaped how I understand identity, family, and connection. I know what it's like to sit between two worlds — and to wish you had someone who truly understood that complexity. That's part of why I do this work: if your background, your family history, or your sense of identity has made it hard to find a therapist who really gets it, I'd love the chance to be that person for you.
I've spent the last several years working with couples, families, and individuals navigating conflict, disconnection, anxiety, and the kind of grief that comes from feeling stuck. What I've learned, over and over, is that most of our struggles don't come out of nowhere — they're shaped by the families and relationships that raised us. Understanding those patterns is often the first real step toward changing them.
What Working Together Looks Like
Our sessions won't feel like a lecture, and they won't feel clinical. My approach blends a few different methods — including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and the Gottman Method for couples — but you won't need to know what any of that means. In practice, it means we'll work on understanding the "why" behind your patterns, not just managing the symptoms, and I'll bring humor, warmth, and real honesty into that process.
The relationship between us matters more than any specific technique. Research consistently shows that how safe and understood you feel with your therapist is one of the biggest predictors of whether therapy actually helps — so it's okay to be picky about who you trust with this. If we meet and it's not the right fit, I'll say so, and I'm happy to help you find someone who is.
A Space for the Full Complexity of Who You Are
I work with individuals, couples, and families — including teens, parents, and multi-generational family conflict. My practice is a welcoming, affirming space for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, non-traditional relationship structures, single parents, and people navigating identity, culture, or family dynamics that don't fit a simple mold. I also speak Korean, if that's helpful for you or your family.
Common reasons people reach out to me:
Recurring conflict or communication breakdowns as a couple
Feeling disconnected or like roommates instead of partners
Anxiety, depression, or grief
Parenting stress and family conflict, including with teens
Life transitions — divorce, blended families, major changes
Wanting a therapist who understands bicultural or complex identity
